Australian camp day hike begins with a drive to Kande from Pokhara. You start your climb from Kande after a short drive of roughly an hour. To get to Australian Camp, which is located on the ridge and has an amazing perspective of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, and Lamjung Himal, the trail is steep and through a stone stairway for around 1.5 to 2 hours. It takes around an hour to descend down from Australian Camp and continue along a magnificent jungle trail with the sounds of chirping birds to the lovely village of Dhampus.
On the Annapurna trekking route, the settlement of Dhampus is endowed with magnificent views of the Annapurna Himalayan Range. The town is charming, with many older homes with slate roofs. The journey is ideal for individuals who want to quickly explore the mountainous terrain and ethnic culture of Nepal. After Dhampus village, it would take another hour to make your way through the terraced rice field to Phedi. From Phedi, you’ll drive back to Pokhara.
A typical day at Australian Camp day hike starts with a hearty breakfast at the Pokhara. Then you’ll drive to Kande which is 22km away from the Lakeside, Pokhara. Then begin the hike from Kande to Australian Camp.
The trail is well-marked and offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscapes, including the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountain range. The hike usually takes around 2-3 hours, depending on your pace and fitness level. Then you’ll reach Australian Camp which is situated at an elevation of 2050 meters. You can enjoy the panoramic views of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre mountains from the Australian Camp. You’ll have lunch here with the amazing serene surroundings.
The next destination will be Dhampus which is a beautiful settlement of the Gurung community. The trail from Australian Camp to Dhampus is mostly downhill. Enjoy the scenic beauty as you make your way through lush forests, terraced fields, and traditional villages.
It is a relatively easy walk, taking around 1-2 hours to reach Dhampus from Australian Camp. Dhampus is known for its rich cultural heritage and spectacular views of the Annapurna range. Take some time to explore the village, interact with locals, and enjoy the breathtaking views. After strolling around Dhampus, descent towards the Phedi. Then back to Pokhara by private vehicle.
After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, drive to the Kande by private vehicle.
After one hour drive from Lakeside, you’ll reach Kande. Kande is the starting point of the hike to the Australian and Dhampus camp.
After around 2 hours hike from the Kande, you’ll reach the Australian Camp. Then you’ll have lunch here prepared by the local people with an amazing view of the mountain ranges and the surroundings.
Then you continue to hike towards the Dhampus, which is a beautiful settlement of the Gurung community and offers magnificent views of the Annapurna range.
After approximately 2 hours hike from the Australian Camp, you’ll reach the Dhampus. Then you stroll around Dhampus village.
Once you are done strolling around Dhampus, descent towards the Phedi which takes around one hour.
From Phedi, drive back towards Pokhara by private vehicle.
Food
You can’t expect varieties of food as you are hiking around the rural area of Nepal. During the Australian Camp and Dhampus hike, food is very important to keep you energized the whole day. Since only lunch is included in this hiking package, we provide the lunch which is prepared by the local people of this trail.
We provide authentic Nepalese cuisine on this hike with an organic flavor. When someone says they have “Dal Bhat power, 24 hours” in Nepalese, they are referring to their capacity to continue living after eating dal bhat for almost a day. However, various foods can be prepared, such as vegetable and noodle soups, in addition to dal bhat, the national dish.
