Photo: Accommodation of Poonhill

On the Poonhill trip, everyone’s top priorities are food and lodging. Since Poonhill is located in a rural section of the nation, there are no five-star hotels there, yet we can nevertheless offer first-rate hotels and lodges. The majority of the teahouses have twin-sharing arrangements, while single bedrooms can be arranged upon request.

Food is necessary during the hike. The primary source of energy for this expedition is food burning. In Nepalese, the phrase “Dal Bhat power, 24 hours” refers to the ability to endure for practically a day after consuming dal bhat. The national dish is dal bhat, however other dishes can be made, including vegetable and noodle soups.

We advise you to stay away from dairy items, hard drinks, and beverages with a lot of caffeine since they could be harmful to your physiology and health at higher altitudes.

Essential Info:

Best Season/Best Time for Poon Hill Trek

Poon Hill Trek is a popular short trekking destination in Nepal, well-liked for its dramatic sunrise views and panoramic Himalayan scenery. The best time to begin this trek is during the Spring and Autumn seasons of the year, as the weather is favorable, clear, and full of vibrancy in nature.

Spring Season:

Spring is considered to be the most favorable time of the year for trekking in Poon Hill. It offers clear skies, temperate temperatures, and an agreeable atmosphere for trekking. Full blooms of rhododendrons with several types of wildflowers paint the trail with brilliant colors. The comfortable daytime weather assures an enjoyable trek. It has very little rainfall during this period; hence, it’s considered perfect for continuous trekking and for good views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.

Autumn Season:

Another perfect time could be autumn, which offers great weather with crystal-clear skies. The temperatures are much alike for trekking comforts during the day and likewise at night. During these times, the surrounding white peaks and the lush green landscapes look absolutely stunningly beautiful. Autumn is described as the peak trekking season in Nepal, as trekkers from all over the globe come to Nepal to enjoy reliable weather and magnificent views.

Summer Season:

The summer season overlaps with the monsoon and offers a unique experience for trekkers, though it also presents challenges. The lush greenery and misty atmosphere create a distinct trekking environment, but heavy rainfall can make the trails slippery and reduce visibility. The risk of leeches and disruptions in transportation due to unpredictable weather make summer less favorable for trekking.

Winter Season:

Winter offers a more serene trekking experience with breathtaking views of the snow-covered landscape. However, during this season, the cold temperatures and intermittent snowfall make the trek somewhat challenging. Those trekking in winter must be properly prepared and equipped. While the trails are less crowded and the views are often pristine, the colder climate and limited accessibility may pose challenges for some trekkers.

What makes 4-day Poonhill trekking special?

The 4-day Poonhill trek is the easiest trekking route and is appropriate for family groups, senior citizens, and student groups as well. It’s overwhelming to hike Ghorepani, Poon Hill, and Ghandruk. It has gained popularity as a preferred trip location for most people thanks to its simple climbing pathways and stunning views. Due to its location within the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), there is a chance that you may come into contact with various animals, including deer, wild boar, and monkeys. The Gurung people live in the attractive village of Ghandruk. You can visit the museum in Ghandruk from where you can learn more about their culture, tradition, lifestyle, and dresses. Mount Fish Tail, Mount Annapurna South, and Mount Himchuli can all be seen clearly from this village.

Equipment Required for Poonhill Trek

Poonhill Trek Difficulty

Poonhill Trek difficulty is the world’s easiest trek. Despite not being very difficult, this journey requires the trekker to be in good physical and mental health. One shouldn’t have heart and lung conditions as well as knee or ankle issues.

This hike can be done in 5 to 6 hours of walking per day with adequate rest. A month or two before the journey date, you should start exercising and getting ready for this trip. These could include daily walking, going on hikes, taking a big walk once a week, practicing breathing techniques connected to yoga, etc.

Best Time for 4-day Poonhill Trek

Poonhill Trek is thought to be most enjoyable in the spring and fall. The best climate is reached during the spring season, which runs from February to April. You are welcomed by the sight of springtime’s flowering rhododendron and lush, green woodlands. The blossoming plants and stunning mountain views are at their peak during this time of year. At lower elevations, it is warm and moderate; as you ascend higher, it becomes colder.

Similarly, the ideal period for the Poonhill Trek is during the autumn, which lasts from September to November. The enormous snow-covered mountains are stunning throughout the autumn when the skies are typically clear. Daytime temperatures are quite consistent. It can get a little chilly at night and in the early morning. But the trek is pleasant on bright, sunny days.

Tipping During the Trekking

Tipping is a personal way for you to express appreciation for your services. You may want to leave a tip for the services you appreciate, or you may just want to express your gratitude in Nepali by saying “DHANYABAD.”

The final day of the vacation is typically when tips are given. Similar to this, trekkers are free to tip a hotel, lodge, or individual on whatever day they choose. Tipping is purely a matter of personal preference and perspective.

Altitude Sickness and Acclimatization

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) symptoms can appear at elevations above 2000 meters above sea level because there is less oxygen in the air, which makes breathing difficult. The signs and symptoms of AMS include nausea, fatigue, headache, and dizziness.

Keep in mind that the Poonhill Trek will take you above 2500 meters, which reduces your risk of developing AMS. To help your body adjust to the thin air, walk gradually and gently. There is a danger that you could develop AMS if you try to move quickly and cover a large area at a high altitude. To prevent the situation from getting worse, vigilance should be exercised. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated, and eat a balanced diet of foods to help your body feel more energized.

Travel Insurance

A quality travel insurance policy that provides adequate coverage for all of your activities is crucial for the Poonhill Trek. During the journey, anything may happen. Even though we are more concerned with safety, accidents and emergencies can sometimes happen where we are going.

Physical injuries, helicopter evacuation, medical costs, and any other situations you can face while trekking should all be covered by your travel insurance policy.

Drinking Water on Poonhill Trek

Trekkers must drink plenty of water to keep their bodies hydrated and avoid altitude sickness (AMS) (Acute Mountain Sickness). Three to four liters of water per day should be consumed while climbing up Poonhill.

Instead of purchasing bottled water, we strongly advise you to carry one reusable water container that can hold hot water. In addition to being pricey, bottled water might cause severe issues in the Annapurna region. Water purification tablets can be used to clean water. But after taking tablets, the flavor will change. Water should always be consumed after sufficient cleansing. Both the teahouse and the tent have access to boiled water.

The permits you need for Poonhill Trek are:

  • TIMS (Tourist Information Management System) card.
